AMC Theatres On Demand
AMC Theatres has launched AMC Theatres On Demand, a new service that allows customers to watch movies at home. It will be available on AMC’s website and through its mobile app. Users will be able to rent digital movies or buy them for a small fee.
AMC Theatres has made deals with the five largest Hollywood studios for new-release movies. In addition, it has entered into a content deal with Warner Bros. This will bring 2,000 titles from those studios to AMC Theatres On Demand. The new releases will be available the same day as they would in the theaters nationwide.
Movies will be available for rent at $3 to $6 a pop, depending on the title. Customers can also purchase the films for a $5 to $25 fee. Those who want to get the most out of their AMC Stubs loyalty program will be able to earn points for purchases.
Streaming movie services such as Netflix and Amazon are looking to create their own exclusive original content. But AMC doesn’t want to give up its traditional business of getting audiences in seats. Rather, the company is experimenting with new business models.
AMC has signed a cross-platform marketing deal with AMC Networks, which will promote its streaming offerings, including UMC and Shudder. These two companies will be included in AMC Theatres On Demand’s library of titles, starting in late 2019.
As an incentive for consumers to sign up for the AMC Stubs loyalty program, the chain is offering free access to three new releases this fall. For a price, users will also be able to choose from an assortment of older blockbusters.
